Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Mekele to Hamed Ela
Drive from Mekele into the Danakil Depression, descending below sea level into one of the world’s most inhospitable yet spectacular landscapes. Pass through the town of Berhale to witness the camel caravans before reaching the village of Hamed Ela for a sunset visit to the salt flats and an overnight camp.
Day 2: Dallol and Salt Mining to Mekele
Visit Ragad (Asebo) to see local miners traditionaly breaking and loading salt onto camels. Explore the otherworldly volcanic landscapes of Dallol, featuring sulphur springs and Lake Assal. After exploring these colorful geological wonders, we drive back to Mekele.
