Day 1: Drive to Yirgalem
Your journey south begins with a drive through the Rift Valley to Yirgalem. Settle into your lodge, surrounded by coffee trees and lush vegetation, providing a peaceful introduction to the coffee-growing region.
Day 2: Yirgacheffe Coffee Cooperatives
Travel to Yirgacheffe, world-renowned for its high-quality Arabica beans. Spend the day visiting local coffee cooperatives and plantations to learn about the traditional cultivation and washing processes that make this coffee famous.
Day 3: Aleta Wendo and Bensa
Continue your exploration of the coffee heartland by visiting cooperatives in Aleta Wendo. Drive through the scenic countryside to Bensa, meeting local farmers and observing the daily life centered around the coffee harvest.
Day 4: Bonga Rainforest & Barta Waterfall
Drive into the Kaffa region, the botanical birthplace of coffee. Take a nature walk through the misty rainforest to the 70m-high Barta Waterfall and visit a local beekeeper to taste organic forest honey produced in the canopy.
Day 5: Mother Coffee Tree & Return to Addis
Trek to the ‘Mother Coffee Tree,’ believed to be the oldest living coffee plant. Visit the historic palace of Ras Abba Jifar in Jimma before your flight back to the capital for a traditional farewell dinner.
