Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Gondar to Sankaber
Your journey begins with a drive from Gondar to Debark to finalize park permits and meet your local scout. From there, you will continue to the start of your trek at Buytras. A 3-4 hour introductory walk brings you to the Sankaber campsite (3,250m), offering your first chance to spot the endemic Gelada baboons along the mountain ridges.
Day 2: Sankaber to Gich
Today features a 5-7 hour trek toward Gich village, passing the spectacular Jinbar Waterfall where the river plunges into a deep abyss. After crossing the river, you will ascend to the Gich campsite (3,600m), a high plateau characterized by Giant Lobelia plants. End the day with a sunset walk to the nearby Kedadit summit for panoramic views.
Day 3: Gich to Ambaras to Gondar
Trek to the Imet Gogo promontory for the most iconic views in the entire mountain range. This area is famous for sightings of the magnificent Lammergeier vultures. After soaking in the 360-degree views, you will trek back toward the road at Ambaras village to meet your vehicle for the return drive to Gondar.
