Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Gondar – Sankaber
Depart Gondar for Sankaber via Debark. Experience impressive views of the northern and western lowlands. You will encounter Gelada baboons near the road before a 2-hour walk to the Sankaber camp (3,250m), situated on a viewpoint between the northern escarpment and the southern Wazla.
Day 2: Sankaber to Geech
Trek 10km (5-6 hours) through highland grasslands. Marvel at the Jinbar Wenz waterfall and the deep Geech Abyss. Stop in Geech village for a traditional coffee ceremony to learn about the highland lifestyle. Overnight at Geech camp among the giant lobelias.
Day 3: Imet Gogo, Saha, and Kedadit
Spend the day exploring the three most stunning viewpoints: Imet Gogo, Saha, and Kedadit. These locations provide the best photographic opportunities of the jagged peaks and deep canyons before returning to Geech camp.
Day 4: Geech to Chenek via Imet Gogo
A 7-8 hour trek toward Chenek. By following the escarpment edge, you maximize your chances of seeing the rare Ethiopian wolf. Arrive at Chenek camp, located in a valley at the foot of Bwahit Peak.
Day 5: Mt. Bwahit Summit (4,443m)
Trek from Chenek to the summit of Mt. Bwahit, the second-highest point in the Simien Mountains. The 5-hour round trip offers an incredible vantage point over the Mesheha Valley and Ras Dashen. Return to Chenek for a second night.
Day 6: Chenek – Debark – Gondar
Once ready to leave, enjoy a 5-hour drive back to Gondar via Debark, completing your Simien Mountains journey.
